- a taste of industrial logic behind destructivetechnology in history -

从直流电和交流电的故事看颠覆性科技诞生的产业逻辑

When the electrical systems were invented, it was not easy to decide if alternating current (AC) or direct current (DC) will power the modern world. The genius inventors and industrialists behind these electrical systems - with Thomas Alva Edison (DC) on one side while George Westinghouse and Nikola Tesla (AC) on the other - were in a race to show that their electrical system is better than others. There is a whole dramatic story behind this struggle that shows how humanity moved from darkness to brightness and how the passion of different people shaped this world. This talk will discuss the struggle between these two groups of inventors who brought the disruptive technology of current into our brightened world and show who emerged as the winner. This story also shows the persistence, hard work, and entrepreneur ship of these inventors/scientists that can be learning experiences of seeking and incubating disruptive technology for the new generation.

当电力系统刚被发明之初,社会很难确定到底应该采用交流电(AC)还是直流电(DC)为世界提供电力。这些电力系统背后的天才发明家和实业家们:一方以托马斯·爱迪生为代表的直流电拥护者,另一方面是乔治·威斯汀豪斯和尼古拉·特斯拉为代表的交流电拥护者,竞相证明他们的电气系统比另外一方更加优越。这场斗争背后有一个完整的戏剧性故事,展示了人类如何从黑暗走向光明,以及参与其中的不同人的激情及他们如何塑造了这个世界。本次演讲将讨论这两组发明家之间围绕给社会带来光明的电流这一颠覆性科技早年的科技和产业斗争。故事里展示了诸多发明家和科学家的坚持,他们的努力工作和企业家精神,故事为我们寻找颠覆性科技的诞生机制提供了可以借鉴的经验和探索的路径。

Ravi Kumar Arya

Ravi Kumar Arya is currently working as a Research Fellow at Xiangshan Laboratory (XSL), Zhongshan Institute of Changchun University of Science and Technology (CUST), China. His research interests include RF circuit design, antenna design, lens design,machine learning, and the analysis of frequency-selective surfaces. He receivedhis master’s degree in RF and Microwave Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur, India in 2006. He obtained his Ph.D. degree in Electrical Engineering from the Pennsylvania State University, the USA in 2017. After completing his master’s, he worked with Centre for Development of Telematics (C-DOT), India from 2006 to 2010. From 2017 to 2018, he worked with the Isotropic Systems, MD, USA as RF Optical Design Engineer where he developed various antennas and software for satellite communication systems. Before joining CUST, he was working as an Assistant Professor in the National Institute of Technology Delhi, India from the year 2019 to 2021. He has published 50 technical papers in highly ranked journals and refereed conference proceedings, including four book chapters. He is member of Organizing Committee in International Conference of International Academy of Physical Sciences on RAMCO, TPC member on Signal Processing and Integrated Networks (SPIN 2021), reviewer for the IEEE transaction on Antennas and Propagation, Guest-editor for AEM Journal SpecialIssue. Dr. Arya received 3 Best Paper Awards at International Conference on Computational Techniques and Applications – ICCTA. Gate fellowship (2004-2006) in M.Tech from Ministry of Human Resource Development, India.

拉维·库马尔·阿里亚博士目前在中国长春理工大学(CUST)中山研究院(以下简称中山研究院)-香山实验室(XSL)担任研究科学家。研究方向主要为射频电路设计、天线设计、透镜设计、机器学习和频率选择表面分析。于2006年获得印度哈拉格布尔印度理工学院射频和微波工程硕士学位。2017年获得美国宾夕法尼亚州立大学电气工程博士学位。2006年至2010年在印度远程信息处理发展中心(C-DOT)工作。2017年至2018年间,在美国马里兰州Isotropic Systems公司担任RF光学设计工程师,为卫星通信系统开发了各种天线和配套软件。加入中山研究院之前,于2019年至2021年间在印度德里国立理工学院担任助理教授。他在SCI期刊和国际会议上发表50篇科技论文,参与四部著作的编写。他是国际物理科学院RAMCO国际会议组委会成员,信号处理和集成网络TPC成员(SPIN 2021),IEEE天线与传播等杂志的评审员,AEM杂志特刊特邀编辑,他曾获国际计算技术与应用会议(ICCTA3篇最佳论文奖,印度人力资源部Gate奖学金。

Dr. Junwei Dong

东君伟 博士

Dr. Junwei Dong, distinguished scientist in the field of electromagnetics and microwave engineering, vice director of XSL. He is the founder and executive officer of Fragrant Mountain Microwave Co. Ltd. He received PhD in electrical engineering from Virginia Tech, United States in 2009. After two years serving as radio scientist in Boston, his families settled in Guangdong China. Since then, he has devoted to promoting Chinese technologies for the global market. For example he invented and marketed the first commercial microwave and mm-wave antennas in China which over 300k pieces were widely deployed in 4G/5G networks all over the world; he has commercialized multiple innovative and advanced microwave and mm-wave testing systems for information systems on land and in space. Dr. Dong has over 50 domestic and international patents, and served as technical chairs of a few international conference and industrial forums.

东君伟博士,籍贯河北鹿泉,国家特殊津贴专家。香山微波科技公司创始人及总裁,香山实验室(XSL)副主任。2009年毕业于美国弗吉尼亚理工大学,曾任美国微波工程公司科学家。从2011年至今,他一直致力于在全球市场推广中国科技产品,主要业绩为:实现国内第一批超高频微波毫米波天线产业化,广泛应用于海内外4G/5G移动通信市场;自主研发并产业化多款用于地面和卫通的高端测试装备等。东博士产出国内外专利50余项,软件著作权4项,获国际先进技术鉴定成果1项,多次受邀参加并主持国际技术研讨会。
